“Excuse me, but I’m very hungry. Do you think I could have tea with you?"

There can't be a parent or child who hasn't read The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr. But, how about having tea with a tiger - of sorts? Well, for the first time in its 129-year history, The Savoy is offering its very first children’s Afternoon Tea, inspired by this beloved book written and illustrated by author Judith Kerr.

The classic story of an anthropomorphised tiger who turns up unexpectedly at the door of young Sophie as she is about to take tea with her mother - and then goes on to eat everything in the house was first published in 1968. This year sees its golden anniversary and to coincide there is a whole host of celebratory activities running across the UK.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea at The Savoy in London see the luxury 5-star hotel partner with HarperCollins Children’s Books to launch a unique children’s Afternoon Tea for all the family. Using the iconic picture book and of course the tea that Sophie and her mummy are about to share, as inspiration for this luxury tea party in a special setting that's fit for even the hungriest of tigers... we mean children.

With a whimsical menu - such as peanut butter and jam sandwich bites, tiger striped scones, Battenberg cake the colour of Sophie’s tights all served with orange juice and tiger striped hot chocolate - to playfully reference moments in the story - will no doubt enchant children and adults alike as this 50 year old book is brought beautifually to life.

All served up on bespoke chinaware (also inspired by the story and available to buy from Savoy Tea) this is one teatime treat not to miss.
