CHECK- IN: Château St Pierre de Serjac

Château St Pierre de Serjac is a magnificent vineyard estate in the French Languedoc boasting ahotel, restaurant, cocktail bar, infinity pool, spa and a number of chic self-catering properties - that immediately may not read like the perfect family holiday destination. But, believe us this luxury hideaway in the South of France - is nestled in 200 acres of beautiful Mediterranean countryside that makes the perfect French family getaway.

A short drive from Montpellier airport (about an hour) or Beziers (about 35 mins) will see you arrive like royalty at the surprisedly relaxed Château St Pierre de Serjac wrought-iron gates before taking in the sweeping staircase to the main house (or, rather Château) that has 8 luxury bedrooms (more suited for couples than families, but children are still very much welcome and cots are readily available) that are decorated to classic French style with a stylish 1920's Parisian jazz-age feel. Think sumptuous velvet upholstered sofas and tub chairs, vintage chandeliers, shades of teal and grey and art deco paintings.

What's more there is 36 fully-equipped self-catering  properties each sleeping from 2 to 8 people (so ideal for multi generational holidays or getaways with friends) that have private terraces, gardens and several with private pools too.

St Pierre de Serjac has 8 luxury bedrooms in the Chateau

We stayed in the main Château where each room offers a sumptuous never-want-to-get-up king-sized beds, free-standing roll-top baths overlooking the main garden and pool and a oversized bathroom with double sinks and a walk-in showers. Many of the rooms have retained the originally character and period features with crystal chandeliers, gilt mirrors, stone fireplaces and heavy frame doors.

In contrast the self-catering properties are light, airy and most certainly more family focused. With space to cook, eat, sleep, relax and play these are your home away from home and the perfect base to share with friends and family. Meaning you have the luxury element of the hotel but your own free space too. See more on these properties here.

The main restaurant at St Pierre

As you can imagine you are spoilt for choice at St Pierre for food and wine.

Breakfast is a continental affair with cold meats, fruit, juice, cheese, bread and the most memorable baked-on site croissants. Seriously it's worth a visit for these alone. Served in the main restaurant each morning.

For lunch there is the superb €25 3-course lunch menu that can be served in the restaurant, on the terrace or near the pool area.

The restaurant is elegant, cosy and serves locally sourced French cuisine without the fuss. Think typical French brasserie style with a homely feel. Dinner offering is an a la carte menu or €38 dinner menu which helps when there is a large group of you.

There is also an excellent children's lunch and dinner menu with burgers, pastas, fish and chicken.

For cocktails the 19th century style bar opposite the restaurant is the perfect place for a pre-dinner drink. The cocktails are delicious - so, you may not want to leave this reception area. The signature Serjec cocktail mixes gin, pink peppercorns, elderflower and basil.

If you do venture out (and we really mean next door) there is the Caveau -  which holds regular events throughout the year with live music, bar tapas and of course, an extensive wine menu where you can enjoy the wine from the region and Serjac's own winery.
